The Brno Metropolitan Police was founded by the Brno Municipality.

The Brno Metropolitan Police is founded and dissolved by the Brno Council by means of a Brno Municipality by-law. The Brno Metropolitan Police was founded within the competency of the Brno Municipality. The by-law of Brno no. 1/1992, under authority of which the Brno Metropolitan Police was founded according to the Act ČNR no. 553/1991 Col., came into effect on 1^st March, 1992.
